楼上说的不对，湾区以东的奥克兰和里士满是全美出了名的治安超乱的区，有些街区连警察都不敢单独进去。我从**上摘录了一段描写奥克兰治安状况的
Crime in Oakland began to escalate during the late 1960s, and by the end of the 1970s Oakland's per capita murder rate had risen to twice that of San Francisco or New York City.[2] In 1983, the National Journal referred to Oakland as the "crime capital" of the San Francisco Bay Area.[3] Crime continued to escalate during the 1980s and 1990s,[4] and during the first decade of the 21st century Oakland has consistently been listed as one of the most dangerous large cities in the United States.[5] However the homicide rate in Oakland has dropped substantially in the 21st century,[6] compared to the late 1980s and early 1990s.[7] [8]
Among Oakland's 35 police patrol beats, violent crime remains a serious problem in specific East and West Oakland neighborhoods. In 2008, homicides were disproportionately concentrated: 72% occurred in three City Council districts, District 3 in West Oakland and Districts 6 and 7 in East Oakland, even though these districts represent only 44% of Oakland's residents.[9]
奥克兰在全美治安最差的城市排行上经常名列前茅，另外伯克利的治安虽说稍微好一些，但也不是很安全，我听我在伯克利加大的同学说过，晚上经常能听到**，很多毒贩和黑帮在那边活动
市区夜晚不是很安全，我个人的体会是流浪汉和游民比较多，特别是靠近同性恋大街和双子峰附近，警察出警的频率很高，所以最好不要独自夜晚外出。我个人觉得硅谷斯坦福大学附近，圣荷西这些地方会好一些
大市区如奥克兰、伯克利、马林县、湾区不错 金融区基本上是富人区，比如Haight-Ashbury。Hunters Point工业区治安状况也不错，非常暖和。 教会区也叫米慎区;Mission District：旧金山市内阳光最灿烂的地方，相当一部分是非法移民。
市场街（Market St区是旧金山最热门的观光活动，这的治安出了名的好
Noe Valley：房子大都是维多利亚式样的大型住宅，居民一般很年轻，收入大，治安好
North Beach：北岸区，意大利区和唐人街旁边的区域、Pacific Heights与Nob Hill同是是全市最贵的住宅区，这里可以看到全旧金山的全景。治安不错
Potrero Hill：工业区附近，山上可以看到，海湾桥和对岸奥克兰的部分港口、South of Market（SOMA）：市场街以南地区，酒吧，俱乐部和艺术家，也有很多价格不菲的新建公寓、 列治文区(Richmond District)：俄罗斯，阿拉伯，而该区有一条华人聚居的街道克莱门街（Clement Street），故该区又被称为“新华埠”。 和日落区分割的是金门公园，和它分隔的是海洋海滨.治安一般，种族冲突多，小打小闹
日落区，有人认为落日区是新兴的唐人街，因为这里商店大多是中国店，而且也有很多华侨和华裔居民。这个区是在二次大战左右建造，现在也还有很多在30年代或40年代就搬进来的退休者。
田德隆区（The Tenderloin）：市内最穷乱的区，有很多成人商店和电影院。路上也常看见醉汉，吸毒者和乞丐，同时亦是各类罪案的温床。但是它就在旅游区和商业区的边上，财富差别非常明显惊人。这的治安最不好了
